Conformational transitions of nongrafted polymers near an absorbing substrate.

چکیده
We have performed multi-canonical chain-growth simulations of a polymer interacting with an adsorbing surface. The polymer, which is not explicitly anchored at the surface, experiences a hierarchy of phase transitions between conformations binding and nonbinding with the substrate. We discuss the phase diagram in the temperature-solubility plane and highlight the transition path through the free-energy landscape.

Systematic microcanonical analyses of polymer adsorption transitions.
In detailed microcanonical analyses of densities of states obtained by extensive multicanonical Monte Carlo computer simulations, we investigate the caloric properties of conformational transitions that adsorbing polymers experience near attractive substrates. For short chains and strong surface attraction, the microcanonical entropy turns out to be a convex function of energy in the transition...

Applying the contact density chain-growth algorithm to lattice heteropolymers, we identify the conformational transitions of a nongrafted hydrophobic-polar heteropolymer with 103 residues in the vicinity of a polar, a hydrophobic, and a uniformly attractive substrate. Introducing only two system parameters, the numbers of surface contacts and intrinsic hydrophobic contacts, respectively, we obt...
متن کاملConformational mechanics of polymer adsorption transitions at attractive substrates.
Conformational phases of a semiflexible off-lattice homopolymer model near an attractive substrate are investigated by means of multicanonical computer simulations. In our polymer-substrate model, nonbonded pairs of monomers as well as monomers and the substrate interact via attractive van der Waals forces. To characterize conformational phases of this hybrid system, we analyze thermal fluctuat...
متن کاملContact-Density Analysis of Lattice Polymer Adsorption Transitions
By means of contact-density chain-growth simulations, we investigate a simple lattice model of a flexible polymer interacting with an attractive substrate. The contact density is a function of the numbers of monomer–substrate and monomer–monomer contacts. These contact numbers represent natural order parameters and allow for a comprising statistical study of the conformational space accessible ...
متن کاملPercolation of immobile domains in supercooled thin polymeric films.
We present an analysis of heterogeneous dynamics in molecular dynamics simulations of a polymeric film supported by an absorbing surface. Using a bead-spring model for polymers, we show that slow, immobile beads occur throughout the film, with the probability of their occurrence decreasing with distance from the substrate. Still, enough immobile beads are located near the free surface to cause ...
